The human displays were in really bad taste, but we still do that today. In the 1990’s and 2000’s, we had shows like Maury and now, we have TikTok.

Who knows, my grandparents could be in the crowds in this documentary. CI was THE place to go when you were poor, children of even poorer immigrant parents from Ireland, Poland, and Russia! My Dad’s side lived in Hell’s Kitchen, Mom’s on LES, all packed into decrepit tenements.

When was this made? The city did fix up Coney Island in the late 90’s, early ‘00’s. But it’s glory days are no more. My parents who passed only last year, ages 96 and 98, remember it from their childhood days. It does have the only roller coaster I’ll ride. In the 1970’s-about 2005, it was very seedy, a sketchy area where you didn’t get caught after dark. Nonetheless, I used to go every Labor Day weekend to ride the coaster, see the midway, the tattooed snake lady, and get corn on the cob, Nathan’s hotdog, an egg creme, and a vanilla ice cream cone to eat on the subway on my way back to Queens. Oh, and I’d go for a swim.

I was there for opening day and there is probably footage of me somewhere in the crazy crowds that were there that day. I remember the line was sooooo long. lol.

Everything seemed so much cleaner & far more interest taken in presenting the town, shame the council cant be bothered any more.

Good times back then, all the rides worked, the world wasn't perfect, but it was simpler, less greed back then.

Whatever year it was filmed just up the coast the then Windscale was pumping "low level" nuclear waste into the Irish sea a bi product of refining uranium to make nuclear weapons not electricity so cheap that you won't have to meter it. Politicians lied back then as now. Great days though if you could have saved a few bob for the seaside trip or even holiday. I'd say more early fifties with later stuff to early sixties if my memory is correct! Thank you for posting this film.

We went every year in the fifties and early sixties to see the lights and there were puppet shows along the seafront. Loved it

It's interesting to see that Universal not only wanted to build a theme park in Orlando Florida USA, but also in London. That's something I didn't even know Universal wanted to build one in the United Kingdom as well. But I do understand why some people were concerned about the animals, not to mention the environment and the land being bulldozed by the company itself. But looking back at it now nearly 35 years later, I wouldn't be surprised if Universal does attempt to do it again sometime in the future, despite an airport taking that spot for airline transportation and such.

I stumbled upon this vidéo, i did operate the thing a few days back in 2017, it was so old school but funny, and now that Walygator invested in a retracking , and new trains this year... A very enjoyable classic

We came from Liverpool as kids for 6 years in a row from 1995, we spent the whole journey excited and played a game of who could spot the bullet first as we got closer. I wanted to go on it from the age of about 6 and even though I was too small I would stand on the back of my trainers to make myself just big enough to ride 😅

Basically, Coney Island started out as a hangout spot for lowlifes but gradually was transformed into one of the greatest amusement parks in the world.

Awesome days lost in time

Great to see this wonderful old film of Blackpool and the Lake District. Nice to see the Tower, Woolworth's building, North Pier and the Winter Gardens looking almost the same as now, but it's amazing how different Central and South Piers looked. Great to see the old trams. Blackpool was lucky to keep them, when everywhere else got rid of theirs. Now some can be enjoyed as part of the Heritage fleet. Great music from the Wurlitzer which can still be enjoyed in the beautiful Tower Ballroom. Great footage from the top of the Tower. Thank you for sharing. Xxx
